This marathon training plan was developed to challenge and prepare runners with past marathon experience to run a specific goal time. Before you begin this program, you should be used to running at least five, ideally six times a week, for a total of 20-25 miles a week; you should be comfortable running at least eight miles for your long run; you should have run at least one or two marathons, be comfortable running on hilly terrain, and have no active injuries or health issues.

Before you start this training program:

  • you should be used to running at least five, ideally six times a week;
  • you should be comfortable running at least eight miles at a time;
  • you should be used to running at least 25 miles total each week;
  • you should have run at least one or two marathons;
  • you should have some experience running on hilly terrain;
  • you should have no active injuries or any other health issues;
  • IF you have any health problems, past, current or potential, you should get cleared by your doctor to begin a marathon training program;
  • You understand that participation in running and conditioning programs carries with it certain inherent risks that cannot be eliminated regardless of the care taken to avoid injuries.
